Free Printable Carbles Board Template (4-Player)
Build your own Carbles board. This is the exact hole pattern the Carbles app plays on — 72 track holes, four finish lanes, four start trays — exported straight from the app's board geometry, so the spacing is mathematically even. Free for personal use.
What's in the pattern
| Track | 72 holes — 18 per player, one shared ring. Heavy solid circles are each color's start spot; the second heavy circle on each arm is the finish entry, two holes before the next start. |
|---|---|
| Finish lanes | 4 holes per player (dashed circles), running up the middle of each arm toward the center. |
| Start trays | A 2×2 tray of 4 lot holes per player, outside the track. |
| Center | One optional center hole (small dotted circle) for the center-marble house rule. |
Carbles board dimensions and measurements
Everything scales with the board, so pick your diameter first. Handmade wooden Carbles boards typically run 17–28 inches across — 4-player boards at the small end, 6- and 8-player boards larger. Adjacent track holes sit about 1/20 of the board diameter apart, center to center:
| Board diameter | 18 in (46 cm) | 22 in (56 cm) | 28 in (71 cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hole spacing (c-to-c) | ≈ 0.9 in | ≈ 1.1 in | ≈ 1.4 in |
| Suggested marbles | 14 mm (9/16 in) | 16 mm (5/8 in) | 25 mm (1 in) shooters |
Drill shallow divots sized to your marbles, not to the printed circles — a brad-point or Forstner bit one size up from the marble (e.g. a 3/4-in bit for 5/8-in marbles) at about 1/3 marble depth seats them nicely. The printed circles mark centers; every hole has a center cross for punching.
Printing and cutting
- Paper template: print the PDF at your target scale (poster/tile printing for big boards), tape it to the blank, and punch every center cross.
- CNC / laser: the SVG is true vector — scale it to your board diameter and cut. The dashed inner ring on polygon boards marks the decorative frame line.
- 6+ player boards: the pattern generalizes — 18 track holes per player, finish entry two holes before each start. The app will happily show you any layout from 2 to 12 players: open a game with that player count and copy what you see.
House rules and colors
Colors on the template are only suggestions — match your marble bag. If you drill the optional center hole, read the center-marble rule first so you place it with its four entry corners in mind.
When the board's done, you'll want the printable rules PDF and the one-page cheat sheet for the table — and the free app makes a fine practice table while the finish dries. Curious where this game comes from? The history of Carbles.
